Gortnahoe Glengoole GAA club notes
Tom O Hara Tournament
Gortnahoe Glengoole GAA club would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who contributed to very successful evening for the club at the Annual Tom O Hara Tournament between Tipp and Kilkenny Under 20s bank holiday Monday in the field
A special mention to the gatecheckers, stewards our field caretakers who has the pitch in great order, the ladies who provided the food, the lotto ticket sellers and of course Jimmy Meighan who pulled the whole thing together.
Our Under 16 Camogie Champions were honoured at half time in a game that saw Tipp run out 3 point winners on a score line of 0-25 to 1-19. Well done to our own ref Tom Loughnane for an excellent job in the middle along with his team of officials. David Nolan also made a brief appearance from the bench for Tipp.
The following was raised on the night
Gate receipts: €2562
Lotto tickets sales : €680
Expenses: €275
Junior hurling
Our Junior hurlers went down to Drom in the Ragg on Friday last on a scoreline of 2-19 to 0-12 in Div 2 of the Mid Junior League. We play Upperchurch in round 4 at home on Saturday at 7:30pm
Under 14 football
Our under 14 footballers put in a serious effort against a physically strong Drom team in the B2 final and lead for most of the game before being pipped at the line by 3-3 to 1-5. The nature of this competition unfortunately saw us only play 3 games which doesn’t do much for the Developement of players. None the less this team has improved greatly throughout the year and have a great team spirit amongst them
Juvenile Referees
Congrats to Brian Maher and Eimear Power the Primary game Referees in Semple Stadium on Saturday evening as Tipp took on Limerick in the Munster Senior football Championship, a lovely double.
Best wishes to Tom Loughnane
The Rice Cup Final has been fixed for Friday 17 May in John Lockes GAA club, Callan Kilkenny at 12pm. Tom Loughnane has been selected as the referee for the game between Midleton CBS and Kilkenny CBS. The final marks the 75th year of the Rice Cup. The very best of luck Tom
Under 14 Camogie
U14s played their County Semi Final on Tuesday last losing to Moneygall who were a stronger side on this occasion. Well done to the girls and their mentors in reaching the semi final stage. They now look forward to the upcoming League.
Tipperary clubs draw
Gortnahoe Glengoole GAA club would like to say Big thanks to all our loyal promotors and members, new and existing for once again joining the County board draw for 2019.
Last year was a very successful year with 10 different cash prizes coming to members of our club draw over the course of the year and we hope that this year will be the same. Special mention to co ordinator Gerry Kavanagh
Championship Challenge
With the leinster championship kicked off this weekend passed, all eyes of those who have entered our challenge will be on the results, scorers and different permutations this week and for the next 9 weekends as the leader board (which will be published on our website and social media platforms every Monday evening) will no doubt change regularly.
And a lot of eyes will be on this, our first annual championship challenge and all in all the sum total of 614 people have taken on the challenge that has everyone talking, comparing notes and watching the action and each other closely. Indeed the competition off the field will be as keen as on the field this summer.
Thanks to the organising committee of Mike Cleary (Boulick) William Coleman, Adrian Maher, Enda McCarthy (who excellently set it up online) Fionn Cleary and Johnny Collins.
The fact that Copymoore have covered printing costs means that when the prize fund (€850) is paid out we will record a profit of €5290.00 for this simple idea.
This will be hugely beneficial to helping with the running cost of the club for the year.
A big thank you goes to all our Intermediate and Junior players who sold plenty of cards and especially to our sellers around the parish over the last 6 weeks of which there were many.
lastly a special mention to Adrian Maher & Mike Cleary (Boulick) who came with the idea and St Martins hurling club who guided us in setting it up.
