Ahead of the much anticipated return to the GAA fields for the underage boys and girls of the parish, all the junior infants of the parish got a welcome surprise this week when just in the nick of time.
They all received a brand new hurley and grip made by local craftsman, Martin Lanigan. Martin hurled senior for the club for many years and is one of the many adults giving back to the club coaching some of the teams in the juvenile section of the club almost every year since hanging up the boots.
Martin made the Hurleys completely voluntary and this has to be commended, we are extremely grateful for your kind gesture Martin
The Hurleys were crafted from the ash trees that were grown at the bottom of the current pitch which were planted years ago ensuring our heroes of the future will be using 100% Gortnahoe Glengoole grown ash!!
With the change in age grades from this year the club will be running a nursery program on Saturday mornings for the first time catering for boys and girls aged 4 and upwards. We hope this will be the first step for these boys and girls towards many many years of fun and involvement in the club.
