Our U21 footballers got the 2017 season off to a winning start today at home in Gortnahoe v Moyne Gaels in the Under 21 B football championship.

After a slow start which saw us trail by 0-2 to 0-1 after 15 minutes a Ronan Teehan goal spurred the team into life and when Keane Hayes started to find his range we led by 4 at half time, 1-4 to 0-3.

If we started the first half slowly we made up for it in the 2nd as we burst out of the traps with Ronan Teehan scoring 2 more goals to complete his hat trick along with Keane Hayes also keeping the points ticking over on the scoreboard.

The game was sealed when Luke Moore finished a great flowing move near the end to leave it 4-8 to 0-7 at full time.

Many positives from today's game with the defence solidly marshalled by Jamie Moriarty and David Nolan at 3 and 6, a huge work rate from Fionn Cleary and Jack Moore in the middle and up front where the energy and enthusiasm displayed by Eamon Fogarty set up many scores and won many frees. Ronan Teehan and Keane Hayes did the damage on the score board on a day where many newcomers to this grade showed up well including Luke Moore off the bench, the aforementioned Eamon Fogarty as well as others getting there first taste like Ger and Matthew Kavanagh. This all without the services of the injured Karl Collins and the late returning John Rafter. With these guys back in fray it certainly will be a tough team to pick.

Next up for this team is a visit to Boherlahan where victory will ensure a Mid Final spot, time date and venue to be confirmed for this fixture
